Munawar Haque, PhD

Munawar Haque earned his PhD in Islamic Studies with a specialization in Islamic Theology and Comparative Religion from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Presently, Dr. Haque is the Imam at the American Muslim Diversity Association (AMDA) and is responsible for leading congregational prayers, delivering sermons, conducting religious discussions, counseling, officiating marriages, leading funeral prayers, participating in interfaith dialogues, and getting involved in community, social, and humanitarian services.

Previously, Dr. Haque was the editor and staff writer for the Research and Publications Division at the Islamic Organization of North America (IONA); was an Adjunct Professor at the Ecumenical Theological Seminary (ETS); taught Arabic and Islamic History in the Muslim Chaplaincy Program; and taught courses on Islamic Worldview, Ethics, Islamic Jurisprudence, and Family Management & Parenting at the IIUM. He also worked as a national and international banker in India and the United Arab Emirates.

Dr. Haque has authored, edited, reviewed, and translated many books and articles on Islam. He is fluent in English, Arabic, Urdu, and Hindi. Dr. Haque enjoys traveling and spending time with his five children and twelve grandchildren.
